July and August Newsletter
Hi friend,
July was a busy month-hence the belated newsletter. We have been busy with tours and transportation charters and planning for the upcoming harvest festivities.
The weather here in Humboldt has been very nice this year. The sun has been coming out almost every day and the highs don’t go much above 65 degrees Fahrenheit. Right now there are a few fires burning in California and Oregon but our skies have stayed nice and clear. We have added the current weather to our website so you can envy the cool weather here on the north coast.
From Mid July to late August is the Perseids meteor shower. This shower is one of the year’s best with 150-200 per hour. This year is supposed to be one of the best years to view it because the moon will be at around 10%. The shower peaks on August 13th. While Eureka and Arcata may not be the best for stargazing, you don’t have to go far to enjoy it. Willow Creek and Southern Humboldt are both great locations to view the shower. The shower is colorful and the meteors often leave long trains. It should be visible nationally so don’t forget to look up.
Another great meteor shower viewing option is Five Sisters Farm Hip Camp! Stay at the cannabis farm right on the Eel River with great star gazing. They have deluxe tents available as well as RV and campsites.
There is a new threat to Humboldt’s cannabis farms and tourism- The Humboldt Cannabis Reform Initiative. The initiative’s writers were able to gather enough signatures to get it onto our March 2024 election and it will completely change the industry here and will make it harder to farmers to survive. The initiative or HCRI (for short) evades public process, targets small farmers, undermines environmental goals and cuts the public out of the decision making process.
The Humboldt Growers Alliance (HCGA) has launched a campaign to fight this initiative and they need support to make sure it doesn’t get passed. Please consider donating to the HCGA and support our cannabis industry and tourism.
As the date for the March 5, 2024 ballot approaches, we urge you to consider making a donation to help stop the Humboldt Cannabis Reform Initiative (HCRI). The HCRI is a voter initiative that, if approved, would establish 38 pages of new rules and restrictions applicable to all legal cannabis farmers in Humboldt County. These regulations were written behind closed doors, without public review, and would effectively reinstate cannabis prohibition in Humboldt.
The HCRI claims to help small cannabis farmers and restrict industrial-scale cannabis cultivation. However, in reality, it would establish a non-functional regulatory framework that undermines all legal cannabis cultivation in Humboldt. Your donation will help us fight against this initiative and ensure that our community continues to thrive.
Join us in protecting the rights of small cannabis farmers and promoting safe and responsible cannabis cultivation in Humboldt County.
“Please consider making a donation to help Humboldt’s farmers.”
